Brett Varvel knew he wanted to be a filmmaker by the age of five. One viewing of the movie Back to the Future was all it took. Brett was hooked, and he’s been chasing the childhood dream to recreate for others what he experienced as a young boy.

Raised as the son of an internationally known cartoonist, storytelling wasn't just a childhood interest — it was the language of the household he grew up in, and it set the course for everything that followed.

That early passion turned into early achievement. Before graduating from Ball State University, Brett had already won a regional Emmy Award for directing and been named a two-time recipient of the David Letterman Scholarship.

Today, Brett works as an actor, director, editor, and public speaker — a rare range that lets him engage a story from every angle: shaping it as a director, refining it in the edit, embodying it as an actor, and carrying its message directly to audiences as a speaker. He founded House of Grace Studios, his production company, as a home for that work.

But none of it is really about the craft. Brett is a disciple of Jesus Christ, and every story he tells — on screen or from a stage — is an offering back to Him. As a speaker, he carries less of a motivational voice and more of a pastoral one, fueled by the Word of God and the leading of His Spirit. His conviction is simple: Christ is the only hope for this life and the next, and Brett wants his life, in front of the camera or behind it, to be worthy of that gospel.
